Initial consult (allow up to 80 minutes)
During the consultation we discuss your past and present health history in detail using a questionnaire and collect information based on your presenting concerns, anatomical health, family or genetic-related conditions, lifestyle habits and current food patterns (including eating, food preparation, food shopping and pantry inspections).
A physical examination will be carried out which may include all or some of the following tests depending on the nature of your health concern: zinc tally test, blood pressure measurement, urinalysis test, blood glucose test, iridology analysis, nail and tongue investigations.
Assessment will involve reviewing the findings both from the health history questionnaire and the physical examination and previous blood pathology tests. We will look for imbalances and deficiencies relating to nutrition in the form of macro and micronutrients and lifestyle factors that need addressing.
After the assessment a personal health care plan will be designed that is unique to you.
Other services such as functional medicine pathology tests may be requested or referral to other allied health professionals may be made to ensure the best health care plan possible.
Follow up consults (between 30 to 45 minutes)
Is an opportunity to discuss your health care plan progress from the initial consult, voice any concerns or challenges experienced and make any changes you think necessary with the support from your practitioner. The follow up consults can be either a standard or short consult depending on what needs to be discussed.
During this process it may include:
- Reviewing functional medicine test investigations and what ongoing support is needed
- Requesting further tests to clarify health status or mark progress
- Assessment of lifestyle and wellness goals and if changes are required
- Discussion of dietary changes and if any adverse reactions occurred and how to manage them
- Introduction to practitioner brand supplementation and discuss the importance of these and going over their contraindications
- Providing educational resources in the format of video clips, flyers, articles, and workshops to help you understand your health concerns
- Wholism will provide unique ongoing support that is personal and inspiring to you
Functional Medicine Testing
Is used to identify the triggers that may be causing your symptoms at a biochemical level. Functional medicine testing covers an extensive range of tests and is categorised into the following profiles: Gastrointestinal, Hormonal, Metabolic, Genetic, Nutritional and Biochemical. The practitioner uses this tool to design a more comprehensive care plan to manage your symptoms.
During your consult we will discuss your functional medicine test options and give you guided instructions on what to do if you choose to go ahead with further testing. You can carry out some tests in the privacy of your own home while other tests may require you to visit a pathology site for sample collection.
Result turnaround time depends on the test requested and can take between approximately 1 to 3 weeks (from the time the specimen is received in the laboratory). The practitioner will issue your results at the next convenient consult.
Wholism has teamed up with Australian Clinical Labs and Nutripath to carry out its functional medicine testing services. Medicare does not cover functional medicine testing and therefore this will incur an extra cost. These tests recommended by your practitioner are up to your discretion if you wish to proceed.
